LIZA Beirut: Time to give back!

In line with this year’s theme "Is Design a Need?”, LIZA Beirut has taken the initiative to contribute to Lebanese Food Bank a remarkable organization fighting food waste and hunger in Lebanon, with a mission of a hunger-free Lebanon by 2025. Liza Beirut will be donating all of its proceeds to the Lebanese Food Bank and the founder, Mr Walid Maalouf, will be giving a presentation outlining the plan & program to fight hunger in Lebanon.LIZA Beirut also invites you to come (re)discover, and (why not?) order the design objects created for its restaurant under the artistic direction of Maria Ousseimi. Being a beautiful and delicious restaurant is no longer enough; LIZA wants to be socially engaged.Book your spot on May 24th at lunchtime or dinnertime as we join forces to beat hunger in Lebanon! It’s time to give back!

The exhibition “Good Dreams, Bad Dreams - American Mythologies” brings together the work of over 56 artists and more than 160 pieces from the Tony and Elham Salame Collection. Borrowing its title from an installation by Allen Ruppersberg, the exhibition features the work of a multigenerational group of artists who engage in a complex analysis of American popular culture entertaining a love and hate relationship with the founding myths of the American dream. It’s 2017 now, a time where customer experience is the primary basis for competition and designers stop being pixel pushers and become the drivers of success and new business opportunities. Martin Dudek, Creative Director of one of London’s fastest growing innovation startups, talks about combining problem solving, creativity, empathy and experience to tackle some of the most difficult challenges of new ventures and the underlying trends supporting the returning influence of designers. Round Table Discussion at Antwork Experts from various disciplines debate the importance of design thinking and designers as co-founders of startups and social ventures. The round table discussion focuses on questions around the contribution of design thinking to the success of ventures and why it is important to create something users love. We are also trying to find answers for the most important skill sets designers need to become successful entrepreneurs, what the shortcomings of design school teaching are and what makes designers attractive hires. Location: May Ziadeh Street,  Spears,  Kantari Workshop: Design Hackathon Wednesday May 24th at 11am- Thursday May 25th at 6pm at Antwork A two day design hackathon explores the crucial role of designers in shaping social ventures in their early stages and getting things OFF THE GROUND. Participants are local and international designers & creatives from all disciplines and backgrounds who care about social impact and beautiful, awesome things working really well. The goal is to to prove that design thinking can provide the solution for complex, human centric problems. Results of the hackathon will be presented in a public showcase followed by an after party on Thursday evening.
