DESIGN FOR CHANGE
Age Group: 13 – 16 Years old
Design for Change is the largest global movement that gives children the opportunity to express their own ideas for a better world and put them into action. It can be implemented within a school or with any group of children aged between 8 and 18 years old.
DFC empowers children by giving them the tool to say I CAN, which are the two most powerful words a person can believe. Children who have discovered this are changing their world.
The main four steps of the process are:
- FEEL the environment, map it, identify problems and vote for the one hot spot to work on. This is followed by an investigation on the field and interviews to stakeholders.
- IMAGINE the best solution
- DO the plan and implement it
- SHARE the story with the community, local newspaper … and the world!
The Design for Change program was created in India and has been adopted in more than 30 countries. Once a year, during the fall, an international conference called ‘Be The Change’ is organized to celebrate these children who are leading the change.
At the national level, a jury designated by DFC Lebanon selects the best project.
Representatives from the winning team at the national level will be offered flight and lodging to attend the conference and present their idea.
The objective is to have youngsters from different communities working together to elaborate and implement solutions/projects to respond to the needs of the Karantina area following the DFC process mentioned above.
