From dumpsite into a temporary public space: As part of Beirut Design Week 2016, theOtherDada, UN Habitat Lebanon, and LCEC, have built a temporary public space and installation in Karantina to demonstrate some of the principles behind the Beirut River 2.0 project; using lost eco system services, recycling materials and adopting the design based on specific features on site in order to bring the it back to life. The site is organised around several posts; rain garden, urban farming, infrastructure improvement, roof as systems, sustainable urban drainage and community engagement.
Plants used on the site are native species, edible plants, air purifying species, mosquito repellents and pollinators.
This installation was nominated for BDW 2016 Sustainability Awards
